Nathaniel Galka
nomadic... NOW

Exhibition on view: February 12 - March 10, 2017

Gitana Rosa Gallery is pleased to present "nomadic... NOW", a series of new photographs by Nathaniel Galka. This exhibition will mark his second solo show at the gallery and our first exhibition in the new location at Piermont, NY. Join us on Sunday from 2-5pm and meet the artist.

While the elements of photography are immediate, many of the scenes are composed of natural observation. In gathering the visual images, Galka travels from extraordinary to mundane environments, which in general are calling his attention.  "During these expeditions, I record through the lens and then romanticize the place as memories. I photograph in the vein of "The Hudson River School" painters... the three themes of the 19th century school are discovery, exploration, and settlement. Their paintings also depict the American landscape as a pastoral setting, where human beings and nature coexist peacefully. Hudson River School often juxtaposing peaceful agriculture and the remaining wilderness which is still as prevalent today as was yesteryear and is intuitive to my energy as an artist... I am a romantic."

Nathaniel Galka graduated from Northwestern University, with an  MFA in 2001, and Columbus College of Art and Design, with a BFA in 1998. He has had numerous solo shows at galleries throughout the Midwest and South, and has exhibited in group shows worldwide, including the IX Florence Biennale Internazionale, in Florence, Italy in 2013. In 2016, he was featured in a Museum Solo Show in Palos Verde Art Center, Los Angeles, CA.
