Gitana Rosa Gallery Presents Palimpsest: A Solo Exhibition by Nicholé Velásquez

Gitana Rosa Gallery is pleased to present Palimpsest, a solo photographic exhibition by artist Nicholé Velásquez, opening Friday, March 6 from 6:00–10:00 PM at GR Virtual Production Studios in Jersey City. Exhibition runs through May 1, 2026.

The exhibition marks a special moment for the gallery as it also celebrates the public launch of GR Virtual Production Studios, a boutique virtual production space created to support artists, filmmakers, and creative innovators working at the intersection of art and technology.

Palimpsest explores the idea of layered memory, time, and transformation. Borrowed from the historical term describing manuscripts that have been written over while traces of earlier writing remain visible, Velásquez’s photographic works reflect a similar visual and conceptual layering. Through experimental photographic processes and compositional overlays, the images reveal the quiet dialogue between past and present embedded within urban environments and natural forms.

Velásquez’s work invites viewers to pause and observe the subtle complexity hidden within everyday spaces. Streets, structures, and landscapes appear simultaneously familiar and dreamlike, revealing multiple narratives within a single frame. Each piece becomes a meditation on how history, experience, and perception continuously rewrite the surfaces of our world.

The exhibition also inaugurates GR Virtual Production Studios, a new creative venue developed by Gitana Rosa to support the growing community of artists, filmmakers, and digital creators working in the region. The studio features a boutique virtual production environment designed for photography, film production, and experimental media.

Visitors attending the opening will experience the exhibition within this newly launched creative space, offering a unique intersection between fine art presentation and contemporary production technology.

The event is presented as part of JC Fridays, the city-wide arts festival organized by Art House Productions, celebrating Jersey City’s vibrant creative community.
