Know the Artist

Claire K. Stringer’s current painting series titled “Ama-Zone,” is an exploration of feminine and equine archetypes, myths, and legends. The Ama-Zone works were originally inspired by 18th and 19th century european paintings depicting women riding with their horses in the woods, often alone. These women were referred to as “Amazones” in French, after the legendary women warriors.

Claire studied fine art at The Savannah College of Art and Design and received her BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. She concentrated in painting, drawing, and photography, and has been cultivating her personal layered and intricate style of ink wash painting since those early years. Claire lived and worked in New York City for several years after graduation, then moved from the right to left coast of the U.S. After residing in the hot pink, turquoise, and palm-tree-studded world of Los Angeles for a few years, her paintings and drawings transitioned from mostly grayscale into vibrant color. Claire has had solo shows in New York City, California, South Carolina and Wisconsin, and participated in group and juried shows nationally. Her work is collected both in the U.S. and abroad.  Claire is currently based in Tucson, Arizona.
